Form for Faculty/Instructors to Request In-Person Teaching Component for Courses Commencing Winter 2021

For the most up-to-date information on York University's response to the COVID-19 pandemic, please visit

This form has been created to assist in implementing the Fall and Winter Course Planning Principles endorsed by the Senate Executive Committee, calling on instructors to be ready to deliver both graduate and undergraduate courses remotely/online as much as possible and as long as needed for health and safety reasons.  However, instructors may propose in-person learning components in groups of up to 25 (or up to 50 in exceptional circumstances) where Student Learning Outcomes cannot otherwise be achieved, or where optional in-person activities are being proposed for those students who can participate.

Requests will be reviewed to determine whether they can be implemented in a manner consistent with evolving restrictions and whether they can be accommodated safely. York University physical campuses will be able to safely accommodate only some of the activities normally planned for Winter term due to the need to ensure physical distancing.

Access to teaching spaces will be prioritized in accordance with the Principles, with first priority given to experiential activities that require access to labs, studios or other physical facilities, and that cannot be replaced or delivered via alternate means while still meeting Student Learning Outcomes and protecting students' ability to progress in their programs. Please be reminded that approved in-person activities will be subject to compliance with health and safety guidelines in effect at the time and place they are carried out.  Decisions are subject to changed based on Canada’s evolving public health concerns.

Instructors are reminded to plan for remote/online delivery wherever possible.
